In December 2016, 8% more arrivals and 7% more overnight stays than in December 2015
In December 2016, 8% more tourist arrivals and 7% more overnight stays were registered than in December 2015. 37% of overnight stays were generated in health (spa) resorts. 58% of overnight stays were generated by foreign tourists, the most by tourists from Austria and Italy (together 47%).
More domestic and foreign arrivals and overnight stays than in December 2015
Compared to December 2015, 8% more tourist arrivals and 7% more overnight stays were registered in tourist accommodations in December 2016. The number of domestic tourist arrivals and overnight stays increased by 7%. The number of foreign tourist arrivals increased by 9% and their overnight stays by 8%.
The highest growth of tourists from Serbia
In December 2016 foreign tourists generated 58% of tourist overnight stays in Slovenia. Key markets, from which the most overnight stays of foreign tourists in Slovenia were registered, were Italy (34%), Austria (13%), Croatia (8%), Germany (7%), Serbia (4%) and the United Kingdom (3%).
In December 2016 tourists from most key markets generated more overnight stays than in December 2015: from Serbia 20% more, from the United Kingdom 13% more, from Croatia 12% more, from Germany 9% more and from Austria 7% more. Tourists from Italy generated the same number of tourist arrivals as in December 2015.
57% of all tourist overnight stays in health (spa) resorts and mountain resorts
In December 2016, 37% of all tourist overnight stays were registered in health (spa) resorts, followed by mountain resorts (20%), municipality Ljubljana (15%) and seaside resorts (14%).
Compared to December 2015, the number of tourist overnight stays increased in all types of tourism focused municipalities and resorts: in municipality Ljubljana by 18%, in mountain resorts by 11%, in seaside resorts by 5% and in health (spa) resorts by 1%.
In hotels 73% of all overnight stays were generated in December 2016
In December 2016, 73% of tourist overnight stays were generated in hotels, 6% in apartment settlements and 4% in private accommodations–rented rooms, dwellings.
In private accommodations–rented rooms, dwellings the number of tourist overnight stays increased by 21% and in hotels by 6%. In apartment settlements 5% fewer overnight stays were registered than in December 2015.
In 2016, 9% more arrivals and 8% more tourist overnight stays
In 2016, 9% more tourist arrivals and 8% more overnight stays were registered in tourist accommodations compared to the previous year.
Domestic tourists generated 5% more tourist arrivals and 3% more overnight stays than in the previous year. The number of foreign tourist arrivals increased by 11% and their overnight stays by 10%.

The monthly data do not cover some establishments with less than 10 permanent bedplaces within the following types of accommodations: private accommodations - rented rooms, dwellings, overnight accommodations, tourist farms with accommodation and company vacation facilities. Annual data also include these establishments.
