On 1 January 2017 Slovenia's population 2,065,895 or 1,707 more than one year earlier
On 1 January 2017 Slovenia had a population of 2,065,895 or 16 more than three months earlier. The number of Slovene citizens decreased while the number of foreign citizens increased and remained at 5.5%.
Fewer citizens of Slovenia, more foreign citizens
According to the Statistical Office of Slovenia, the population of Slovenia increased by 16 in the fourth quarter of 2016. The number of citizens of Slovenia decreased by more than 1,650 (0.1%), while the number of foreign citizens increased by nearly 1,700 (1.5%). On 1 January 2017 the 114,438 foreign citizens represented 5.5% of Slovenia’s population.
Increasing share of women among foreign citizens
On 1 January 2017 the population of Slovenia consisted of 1,025,125 men and 1,040,770 women. The share of women among citizens of Slovenia was 51.3% (this share has been slowly decreasing for a number of years); among foreign citizens there were 35.1% women (their share has increased by 3,1 percentage points in the last four years).
