Overnutrition and obesity of adult population is the proportion of the population who is overweight according to the body mass index (the index is higher than 25). The indicator monitors an adult population aged 18 and over.
The body mass index (BMI) is defined as the weight in kilos divided by the square of the height in meters. The nutritional status of adults is divided into the following categories according to the body mass index:
- up to 18.4 malnutrition,
- between 18.5 and 24.9 normal nutrition,
- between 25.0 and 29.9 overnutrition,
- over 30.0 obesity (more precisely, from 30.0 to 34.9 obesity level I, 35.0 to 39.9 obesity level II, and 40.0 and more extraordinary obesity or obesity level III).
The indicator can also be used to complement the monitoring of goal 3.
