Prices up again: by 10% annually and by 0.9% monthly

Annual inflation in November is still high, i.e. 10%. The biggest impact on annual inflation came from 19% higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages. The monthly inflation was influenced the most by higher prices of petroleum products, which contributed 0.4 of a percentage point.

Annual inflation at 10%

The annual growth of consumer prices was 10% (in the same period last year 4.6%). The average annual price growth was 8.7%.

On average, goods prices went up by 12.1% and service prices by 5.9%. As regards goods, non-durable goods prices went up by 15.3%, durable goods prices by 8.4% and semi-durable goods prices by 3.6%.

Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 19% and pushed annual inflation up by 3.1 percentage points. Higher fuel and energy prices (by 19.1%) contributed 2.3 p.p. Additional 0.9 p.p. came from 12% higher prices in furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance. Another 0.7 p.p. came from 9.8% higher prices in restaurants and hotels.

Monthly inflation at 0.9%

In November, consumer prices were on average 0.9% higher than in the previous month.

The greatest impact on monthly inflation (0.4 p.p.) came from higher prices of petroleum products: the prices of liquid fuels went up by 7.6% and of fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment by 5.7%. 0.9% higher prices of food contributed 0.2 p.p. to the monthly inflation rate. Additional 0.1 p.p. each came from higher prices of equipment for sport (by 13.2%), solid fuels (by 6.5%), health services (by 2.5%), clothing and footwear (by 1.9 %). All other monthly price increases contributed 0.2 p.p.

On the other hand, the monthly growth rate was pushed down by 0.1 p.p. each by lower prices of heat energy (by 7%), accommodation services (by 3.7%) and package holidays (by 1.8%).

Harmonised indices of consumer prices

Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, the annual growth of consumer prices was 10.8% (in November 2021 4.9%). The monthly price growth was 1.1% (previous month 0.8%).

At the annual level, goods prices went up on average by 12.7% and service prices by 6.8%. As regards goods, non-durable goods prices went up by 16.5%, durable goods prices by 7%, and semi-durable goods prices by 4.3%.

Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, in October 2022 the annual inflation rate in the EMU countries was 10.6% (up from 9.9% in September). In the EU-27 Member States it was 11.5% (up from 10.9% in September). The lowest annual inflation rate was recorded in France (7.1%) and the highest in Estonia (22.5%); in Slovenia it stood at 10.3%.
