Again more than a million employed persons
In the fourth quarter of 2024, 1,001,000 persons were employed and 37,000 were unemployed. While the employment rate slightly increased, the unemployment rate decreased again.
More employed persons than in the previous quarter
Recently, we have observed a slight increase in the number of employed individuals according to our survey sources.
In the last quarter of 2024, there were 1,001,000 employed persons, which is an increase of 0.8% over the previous quarter and 0.3% over the fourth quarter of 2023.
Compared to the previous quarter, the number of employed men increased by over 8,000 or 1.6%, while the number of employed women decreased by slightly fewer than 1,000 or 0.1%. Overall, there were more employed men (55%) than women (45%).
The employment rate increased to 56.6% among all working-age residents (i.e. those aged 15 and over). This was an increase of 0.4 of a percentage point compared to the third quarter of 2024, but a decrease of 0.1 of a percentage point compared to the fourth quarter of 2023.
One of the Sustainable Development Goals is to achieve an employment rate of over 75% among those aged 20–64 by 2030. In the observed quarter, the rate was 78.2%.
Among the employed, 87.5% were employees and 11.0% self-employed, while 1.5% helped on family farms or in family businesses as unpaid family workers. Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of employees went up by 1.7% and the number of self-employed down by 7.8%.
Unemployment rate below 4%
In the last quarter of 2024, there were 37,000 unemployed persons, which is a decrease of 9,000 over the third quarter of 2024, but an increase of 2,000 over the fourth quarter of 2023.
Among the unemployed, 46% were men and 54% were women. Compared to the third quarter, the number of unemployed men went down by just over 8,000 and the number of unemployed women by slightly fewer than 1,000.
The unemployment rate during this period was 3.5%, i.e. 0.9 of a percentage point lower than in the previous quarter. However, compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, it went up by 0.2 of a percentage point.
