After two years of decline, the number of registered passenger cars in 2014 up again
In 2014, 1,412,315 road vehicles were registered in Slovenia, of which about 76% (1,068,362) were passenger cars. The number of older passenger cars is still increasing; on average a passenger car in Slovenia was 9.4 years old.
The number of road vehicles registered in Slovenia greater than a year ago
In 2014, 1,412,315 road vehicles were registered in Slovenia, which is about 1% or 15,625 more than in 2013. Among them 96,526 were registered in Slovenia for the first time, and about 25% of them had already been registered abroad.
In 2014, the number of registered passenger cars the highest ever
There were 1,068,362 registered passenger cars in Slovenia in 2014, which is about 0.2% or 1,867 more than in 2011, when we recorded the previous largest number of such vehicles. The number of registered passenger cars increased after two years of decline.
The number of registered new passenger cars increased for the second consecutive year and in 2014 amounted to 54,086. In 2014 there were about 31% registered new passenger cars less than in 2008, when we recorded the highest number in the last ten years.
The share of older vehicles is increasing
For every new registered passenger car about 20 old passenger cars were registered in 2014, while in 2008 there were about 13 old registered passenger cars for every new one.
The age structure of road vehicles at the end of the 2014 shows that about 26% of all road vehicles were 5 years old or less and that about 37% of them were older than 12 years, which is about 50% more than in 2008.
The average age of passenger cars in 2014 was the highest in most border municipalities except in northern Slovenia.
New breakdown of motor vehicles by type of fuel also considers the type of drive
In 2014 about 53% of registered passenger cars, busses and goods motor vehicles were using petrol, about 47% diesel and less than 1% other types of fuel: about 0.01% were electrical vehicles, about 0.7% were using liquefied petroleum gas, about 0.02% natural gas and about 0.1% were hybrids and vehicles with other types of fuel.
There were 153 registered electrical vehicles in 2014; 86% of those are less powerful passenger cars (with engine size of 1399 cm3 or less).

Data on the number of vehicles by type of fuel for 2014 are published for the first time according to the new methodology, which besides the type of fuel also considers the type of drive.
