Domestic production of wines amounted to almost 660,000 hectolitres in the observed market year 2014/15 in Slovenia, according to the provisional statistical data. Production of white wines represented the highest share of the total production, ie. 69% or almost 460,000 hectolitres in this year.
Wines with protected designation of origin represented the highest share in total domestic production
Regarding the quality distinction of wine, the production of wines with protected designation of origin represented the highest share in the total domestic production of wines in the observed market year 2014/15 (72% or almost 480,000 hectolitres). Production of wines with protected geographical indication represented 20% (slightly more than 130,000 hectolitres) and the production of varietal and other wines together 8% (around 49,000 hectolitres).
Domestic use of wines amounted to around 830,000 hectolitres in Slovenia
In Slovenia the domestic use of wines amounted to around 830,000 hectolitres in 2014/15 marketing year. Domestic use of white wines amounted to slightly more than 530.000 hectolitres (64%) of the total use of wine.
80-percent self-sufficiency rate in wine in Slovenia
Self-sufficiency rate in wine, it represents the ratio between the domestic production and domestic use of wine, amounted to 80% in 2014/15 marketing year in Slovenia. Slovenian citizen drank 39 litres of wine in the same year.
