In May 2021, more persons in employment

At the end of May 2021, there were about 897,000 persons in employment in Slovenia (or about 3,700 more than at the end of April 2021), of whom more than 801,500 were persons in paid employment and more than 95,400 were self-employed persons. Since the end of May 2020 (i.e. in the last twelve months), the number of persons in paid employment has increased by 1.5% and the number of self-employed persons by 1.4%.

Compared to April 2021, in May 2021 the number of men in employment increased by 0.3% (to about 492,400) and the number of women in employment by 0.5% (to more than 404,600). Compared to May 2020, the number of both increased, but the number of women in employment increased more (by 1.8%) than the number of men in employment (by 1.2%). On a monthly basis the number of men in employment increased the most in construction (by about 500 or by 0.7% to more than 61,100), while the number of women in employment increased the most in accommodation and food service activities (by more than 600 or by 3.3% to more than 19,300).

In May 2021, on a monthly basis the number of persons in employment increased in all statistical regions (by employment), the most in Osrednjeslovenska (by about 1,400 to about 318,700), the most in construction (by about 300 or by 1.5% to about 20,000). At the annual level, in May 2021, the number of persons in employment in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region increased by 2.0%, the most in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (by about 1,500 or by 3.1%).

An overview by activities shows that the number of persons in employment in May 2021, compared to April 2021, increased in all activities, except in financial and insurance activities where it decreased by 0.1% (to about 19,400). The largest increase was recorded in accommodation and food service activities, i.e. by more than 900 (or by 2.9% to more than 33,500), while in accommodation it increased by 2.1% (to just over 9,700), the most in the Obalno-kraška statistical region (by employment), and in food and beverage service activities it increased by 3.2% (to about 23,800), the most in the Podravska statistical region. At the annual level, in May 2021 the number of persons in employment increased the most in human health and social work activities (by more than 3,500) and decreased the most in accommodation and food service activities (by about 600).
