74% of enterprises in accommodation activities were hampered by problems in digital transformation of business
71% of enterprises in activity I55 were hampered in digital transformation of business by lack of relevant staff or knowledge. 50% made persons employed aware of their obligations in ICT security related issues. In 2023, 76% of enterprises generated turnover via online reservation platforms.
Almost a third of enterprises provided training to develop ICT related skills
In 2024, enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed in accommodation activities (I 55 according to NACE Rev. 2) used information-communication technologies (ICT) in the following extent:
The usage of AI technologies above the EU average
37% of enterprises used artificial intelligence technologies (AI) (12% in EU). 29% of those enterprises used the AI for organisation of business administration processes or management and the same share for ICT security. With 27%, the usage for marketing or sales followed.
Among enterprises that were not AI users (63%), 30% considered using it. The majority of those (95%) stated as a reason for not using it incompatibility with existing equipment, software or systems, 90% lack of relevant expertise in the enterprise, 52% difficulties with availability or quality of the necessary data and 43% that the costs seem too high. For 8% the reason was lack of clarity about the legal consequences, e.g. liability in case of damage caused by the use of AI, 5% had concerns regarding violation of data protection and privacy, and the same share ethical considerations.
Less than a third of enterprises made employees and self-employed aware about the safe usage of ICT with compulsory training courses or viewing compulsory material
With the digitalization of business, new threats emerge and the need to ensure digital security increases. 93% of enterprises used security measures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and accessibility of data and ICT systems (94% in EU).
92% of enterprises used authentication via strong password, e.g. with defined minimum length, use of numbers and special characters, periodically changed (84% in EU), 89% backup data to a separate location or in the cloud (82% in EU) and 70% used network access control, e.g. management of user rights in enterprise’s network (69% in EU). 38% conducted ICT security tests, e.g. performing penetration tests, testing security alert system, review of security measures, testing of backup systems (34% in EU) and 22% conducted ICT risk assessment, i.e. periodical assessment of probability and consequences of ICT security incidents (34% in EU).
More than three quarters of enterprises received reservations via online reservation platforms
In 2023, 76% of enterprises in activities I55 generated turnover with web sales – received reservations via the Internet (79% in EU): 61% via their own or a website of their parent enterprise (72% in EU) and 76% via online reservation platforms (69% in EU).
In 2023, enterprises generated with web sales 21.2% of their turnover (excluding VAT) or around EUR 148 million: 7.2% via their own or a website of their parent enterprise and 14.1% via online reservation platforms. 4.5% of the turnover was generated with reservations received from Slovenia, 13.5% from other EU Member States and 3.2% from other countries.
The largest share of enterprises reached high level of digital intensity
In 2024, most (41%) of enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed in accommodation activities (I 55 according to NACE Rev. 2) reached high level of digital intensity (37% in EU). The index shows the digital maturity of enterprises in a given year – the extent to which they use ICT monitored in a given year. The data are most comparable to 2022, when the use of the same type of ICT was monitored.
Fewer enterprises stated that digital transformation is not essential for successful performance

In 2024, enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed in accommodation activities (I 55 according to NACE Rev. 2) used information-communication technologies (ICT) in the following extent:
- 76% of employees and self-employed had access to the Internet for business purposes (53% in EU).
- 35% of employees and self-employed were provided with portable devices by enterprises that allow connection to the Internet via mobile telephone networks for business purposes (22% in EU).
- 93% of enterprises arranged remote access for their employees and self-employed (93% in EU): 93% to the enterprise’s e-mail system, 92% to the enterprise’s business applications or software, e.g. access to accounting, sales, orders, CRM – Customer Relationship Management, and 76% to the enterprise’s documents, e.g. files, spreadsheets, pictures, presentations.
- 90% of enterprises were present on the Internet with a website (94% in EU).
- 81% of enterprises used work collaborative tools, e.g. MS Teams, Slack.
- 56% of enterprises conducted remote meetings, e.g. via MS Teams, Webex, Zoom (45% in EU).
- 50% of enterprises used Enterprise Resource Planning – ERP software.
- Almost half (47%) of enterprises had when accessing the Internet via a fixed Internet connection a maximum contracted download speed at least 100 Mbit/s but less than 500 Mbit/s (35% in EU) and 28% of at least 1 Gbit/s (15% in EU).
- 44% of enterprises used software solutions for paperless office, e.g. document system, Business Process Management systems – BPM.
- 43% of enterprises paid to advertise on the Internet, e.g. adverts on search engines, on social media (e.g. on Google, Facebook, YouTube) or other websites (57% in EU).
- 41% of enterprises used Customer Relationship Management software – CRM.
- 29% of enterprises provided in 2023 to employees and self-employed any type of training to develop ICT related skills of employees and self-employed (19% in EU).
- 17% of enterprises employed ICT specialists (14% in EU). In 2023, 12% of enterprises recruited or tried to recruit ICT specialists. Of those, 93% had vacancies that were difficult to fill – 94% encountered the applicants’ lack of relevant work experience and 82% encountered lack of applications.

- In 40% of enterprises executives in the enterprise who are responsible for key processes lacked knowledge of the capabilities of digital technologies,
- In 36% of enterprises rapid adjustment of the management or operations of the enterprise was not possible, e.g. rapid experimentation in the usage of digital technologies, adaptation to changes in the environment,
- In 35% of enterprises persons employed or management did not show a willingness to make changes in the enterprise,
- In 31% of enterprises there were too many conflicting priorities in the enterprise,
- 26% of enterprises lacked financial resources and
- In a quarter of enterprises business processes within the enterprise were not connected.
METHODOLOGICAL NOTE
The published data are estimates derived from the survey on the sample that represents enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed persons. An enterprise may consist of several ownership-related legal entities, as long as they operate on the market as one independent enterprise.
