Trade in goods in the first two months larger than in the same period last year

At the annual level and the level of the first two months, the value of external trade in goods grew, more significantly in exports, mainly due to the higher value of operations involving processing in trade with EU non-member countries.

Key comparisons with February last year

Exports (EUR 8.4 billion):

  • Value up by 88.6% year-on-year.
  • The value of exports to EU Member States went up by 0.1% and to EU non-member countries up significantly, by 212.6%, due to the high value of operations involving processing1. Without the latter, exports to this group of countries increased by 4.8% to EUR 830 million.

Imports (EUR 6.3 billion):

  • Value up by 12.3% year-on-year.
  • The value of imports from EU Member States went down by 3.9% and from EU non-member countries up by 28.0%; without operations involving processing1, imports from the latter increased by 2.3% to EUR 733 million.

The export-import ratio was 134.2%. Slovenia generated a surplus of EUR 2.1 billion in external trade in goods.

In February, Germany the most important partner country in trade with EU Member States

Within EU, Slovenia imported and exported the largest share of goods from/to Germany, followed by Croatia, Italy and Austria. 

External trade in the first two months up

In the first two months, the value of exports was higher by 47.3% and of imports by 7.0%. Exports to EU non-member countries increased the most in terms of value, namely by 102.5%.

External trade surplus amounted to EUR 2.3 billion in the observed period, while the export-import ratio was 120.3%.

METHODOLOGICAL NOTE
1 Operations involving processing include modification, making, composition, improvement and renovation with the aim to produce new or significantly improved products.

Monthly data for 2025 are provisional. With each release the data can be corrected and completed with new data. Final data for 2025 will be published in June 2026.
