Traffic of goods vehicles up the most at road border crossings with Italy
Passenger vehicle traffic increased the most at road border crossings with Austria, by 4%, while goods vehicles went up the most at the border with Italy, by 14%. Trailers and tractors accounted for half of all last year’s goods vehicle traffic at road border crossings.
Share of passenger vehicles that entered or exited Slovenia largest at road border crossings with Austria
In 2024, 77.5 million passenger vehicles entered or exited Slovenia at road border crossings: 32.9 million at border crossings with Croatia, 21.3 million with Austria, 20.7 million with Italy and 2.6 million with Hungary. The highest annual increase in traffic was recorded at road border crossings with Austria, by 4%, followed by Croatia, where it went up by 2%. It decreased by 1% at border crossings with Italy, and by 3% at border crossings with Hungary.
Among passenger vehicles that crossed Slovenian road border crossings, there were 75 million passenger cars, 1.4 million motorcycles and 0.5 million buses. Compared to the previous year, traffic of motorcycles and buses increased by 1% and of cars by 2%.
More traffic of goods vehicles at border crossings with Italy
Increase in road border traffic was more pronounced as regards goods traffic. 18 million goods vehicles entered or exited Slovenia at road border crossings, which was 5% more than in year 2023. Of all goods vehicles, 36% entered or exited via crossings with Croatia, 27% with Italy, 25% with Austria and 11% with Hungary. The largest increase in traffic of goods vehicles occurred at border crossings with Italy, by 14%, while the largest decrease was recorded on the border with Hungary, by 11%.
About half of goods vehicles were trailers and tractors, 9.2 million of them being counted at road border crossings. Followed by light weight goods vehicles with 7.7 million, medium weight with 0.5 million and heavy with 0.3 million goods vehicles.The traffic of trailers and tractors went up by 7% compared to the previous year. The largest increase, by 22%, was recorded at border crossings with Italy.
