Less butter, drinking milk and cheese, more acidified milk and cream year-on-year
Milk production has been increasing in recent months. In February, it was slightly lower than a year ago, but only due to the leap year effect. Dairies produced less butter, drinking milk and cheese, but more acidified milk and cream.
Milk production in an upward trend since August 2024
In February, around 45,500 tonnes of milk was collected from agricultural holdings. This was a 6.7% decrease at the monthly level, which is a normal seasonal decline. At the annual level, production decreased by 0.4%, which, considering last year's leap year, means that milk production in February would have been more than 3% higher with the same number of days.

Compared to the previous month, dairies produced a fifth less butter, more than 6% less cream and about 5% less drinking milk and cheese. The production of acidified milk decreased only slightly.
Notable decrease in butter and drinking milk production year-on-year
Compared to February 2024, dairies decreased the production of butter by almost 12% and of drinking milk by almost 10%, while cheese production went down by about 3%. On the other hand, they produced almost 5% more cream and almost 2% more acidified milk.
The price of raw milk in the EU down in January 2025
The price of raw milk in the EU decreased by 2.0% in January 2025 and amounted to EUR 0.535/kg. In February, the price of raw milk is expected to remain almost the same.
