About Statistical Office
The Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (SURS) is the main producer and coordinator of national statistics in Slovenia. In line with the National Statistics Act (OJ RS, No. 45/95 and 9/01) SURS is a professionally independent Government service. The head of SURS is autonomous as regards professional and methodological issues.
The mission of the Slovenian national statistics is to provide up-to-date statistical data on Slovenia. The data must be of sufficient quality, timely, comparable in time and internationally, and presented clearly and understandably. The fundamental principles according to which the national statistics are produced are neutrality, objectivity, professional independence, rationality, statistical confidentiality, and transparency.
SURS is a member of the European Statistical System and in this role actively cooperates in working groups and committees of Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union, and in technical and infrastructural projects coordinated by Eurostat. In addition, it is included in all procedures of preparing, coordinating, and adopting European legislation governing statistics.

SURS is also regularly involved in the Open Data Inventory (ODIN) and ranks among the best countries in the world in terms of openness and coverage of statistical data. In 2022, it ranked 6th among 192 countries and 1st in the Southern Europe region.
Leadership
As of 25 April 2024, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia appointed Apolonija Oblak Flander Director-General of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia.

Organisational structure of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia
In line with the National Statistics Act, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia operates as a professionally independent government service led by the Director-General. It is divided into divisions – further divided into sections – and services. On 25 April 2024, the Statistical Office had 307 employees, 88% of whom with tertiary education. Women represented 70% of the employees, and the average age of an employee was 46.4 years.
