Digital transformation of business in enterprises hampered by lack of relevant staff or knowledge
In 2022, 35% of enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed have a low digital intensity index. 20% specified in the systematization for each job which digital skills are required for it. In 2021, 29% provided training to develop ICT related skills.
Lack of relevant staff or knowledge still the most common problem hampering digital transformation of business in enterprises
In digital transformation, the use of technologies changes the enterprise’s business operations and can enable cost reduction, increased productivity, etc. 58% of enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed are hampered by problems in digital transformation of business (in 2021: 60%): 56% of small, 67% of medium-sized and 79% of large enterprises. 36% of enterprises are hampered by lack of relevant staff or knowledge (34% of small, 45% of medium-sized and 55% of large enterprises) and 31% by lack of financial resources (31% of small, 32% of medium-sized and 36% of large enterprises). 26% of enterprises have no problems with digital transformation and 43% stated that digital transformation is not essential for the successful performance of the enterprise (in 2021 46%).
A fifth of the enterprises have a digital strategy for digital transformation of business that was approved by the management (in 2021: 17%): 17% of small, 30% of medium-sized and 56% of large enterprises.

In 2021, the share of enterprises that provided training to develop ICT related skills of the employees and self-employed increased
29% of enterprises provided in 2021 any type of training to develop ICT related skills of employees and self-employed, e.g. use of computers, software (in 2019 26%): 23% of small, 52% of medium-sized and 81% of large enterprises, and as regards cohesion regions, 32% of enterprises in Zahodna and 25% in Vzhodna Slovenija.
14% of enterprises provided training for ICT specialists and 26% to other employees and self-employed.

In 2021, 9% of enterprises recruited or tried to recruit ICT specialists. Of those 78% had vacancies for ICT specialists that were difficult to fill. These enterprises encountered the following difficulties: 81% lack of applications, 76% applicants' lack of relevant ICT related qualifications from education and/or training, 60% applicants' too high salary expectations and 56% applicants' lack of relevant work experience.

Of those 42% mentioned in the vacancy notice also as a condition the mastery of digital skills and knowledge: 36% of small, 60% of medium-sized and 88% of large enterprises.
47% of enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed specified in the systematization of jobs which digital skills or knowledge are required to perform the work: 42% of small, 69% of medium-sized and 84% of large enterprises. The systematization contains data on the type of work, job description and conditions for performing work at an individual workplace.
20% of enterprises specified in the systematization for each job which digital skills are required for it (18% of small, 27% of medium-sized and 35% of large enterprises) and 27% of enterprises for some of the jobs (24% of small, 42% of medium-sized and 49% of large enterprises). 41% of enterprises do not specify which digital skills are required for any job and 12% have no systematization of jobs.
In 2022, the largest share of enterprises (more than a third) with a low digital intensity index
The rate of digitization of enterprises with at least 10 employees and self-employed is monitored by the digital intensity index, which consists of 12 indicators used to monitor the use of ICT in enterprises in an individual year. According to the number of elements they meet, enterprises are classified into four groups: enterprises with a very low, low, high and very high digital intensity index.
In 2022, the largest share of enterprises with at least 10 employees and self-employed had a low digital intensity index (35%). 32% of enterprises had a very low, 28% a high and 5% a very high digital intensity index. Among small enterprises 37% had a very low and the same share a low index, among medium-sized 44% had a high index and among large enterprises 47% had a high index.

- Enterprise employs ICT specialist – 21% of enterprises.
- Maximum contracted download speed of the fastest fixed Internet connection is at least 30 Mbit/s – 83% of enterprises (in 2021: 79%).
- Enterprise conducted remote meetings – 46% of enterprises.
- Enterprise makes persons employed aware of their obligations in ICT security related issues – 51% of enterprises.
- Enterprise provides training to develop ICT related skills of the persons employed in the previous year – 29% of enterprises.
- Enterprise uses at least three ICT security measures – 68% of enterprises.
- Enterprise has document(s) on measures, practices or procedures on ICT security – 40% of enterprises.
- Employees and self-employed have remote access to e-mail, documents or business apps – 86% of enterprises.
- Enterprise uses robots (industrial or service) – 7% of enterprises (6% industrial and 1% service robots).
- Enterprise generated at least 1% of its turnover in the previous year via computer networks – with orders via websites or via electronic data interchange (EDI) – in 2021 there were 20% of such enterprises, which is the same as in 2020.
- Enterprise generated more than 1% of its turnover via web sales and more than 10% of its web sales to private customers – in 2021 there were 9% of such enterprises (in 2020 8%).

METHODOLOGICAL NOTE
The published data are estimates derived from the survey on the sample that represents enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed persons. An enterprise may consist of several ownership-related legal entities, as long as they operate on the market as one independent enterprise.
When monitoring the digitization by region, we must take into account that various factors affect the activity of enterprises active in a particular region. Enterprises can have business units operating in both cohesion regions, yet the data on the use of ICT can only be attributed to the region where the enterprise has the headquarters.
