Consumer sentiment slightly down
In August, the consumer confidence indicator deteriorated at the monthly level by 1 percentage point.
Consumer sentiment lower at the monthly level
The value of the consumer confidence indicator decreased by 1 percentage point (p.p.) compared to July, and was 12 p.p. below the long-term average.
The monthly decrease in the confidence indicator resulted from more pessimistic consumer expectations about the country’s economy (by 3 p.p.) and about households’ finances (by 2 p.p.). On the other hand, expectations about major purchases slightly improved (by 1 p.p.). Consumer opinion on current households’ finances remained at the level of the previous month.
Improvement at the annual level
Compared to last year’s August, the value of the consumer confidence indicator was 5 p.p. higher, but was 1 p.p. below last year’s average.
The annual increase in the value of the confidence indicator resulted from more optimistic consumer expectations about households’ finances (by 9 p.p.), about the country’s economy (by 5 p.p.), and about major purchases (also by 5 p.p.). Consumer opinion on current households’ finances was at the level of last year’s August.
