Consumer sentiment slightly up at the end of the year
The value of the consumer confidence indicator was below the long-term average throughout 2023.
Slightly higher at the monthly level …
The consumer confidence indicator improved by 1 percentage point (p.p.) compared to November.
Among its components, consumers’ expectations about households’ finances and about the country’s economy improved (by 3 and 1 p.p., respectively). The indicator expectations for major purchases deteriorated (by 2 p.p.), while consumer opinion on current households’ finances remained at the level of the previous month.
Similar to 2022, consumer opinion was at low levels this year and below the long-term average all year, but was fairly stable as monthly changes were minimal.
… but the same at the annual level
Compared to last year’s December, the value of the consumer confidence indicator remained the same, and was 2 p.p. above last year’s average.
At the annual level, consumers’ expectations about households’ finances and for major purchases improved (both by 1 p.p.). On the other hand, the indicators current households’ finances and expectations about the country’s economy deteriorated (by 3 and 1 p.p., respectively).

The data are based on the Consumer Survey, which was answered by 784 persons between 1 and 17 December 2023.
