Exports and imports of goods, November 2023

Trade in goods in the first eleven months larger than in the same period a year ago

In November, values of exports and imports were up at the annual level due to more trade with EU non-member countries, while trade with EU Member States declined by about a tenth. In the first eleven months, the value of exports was up by 4.8% and of imports by 1.8% over the same period in 2022.

Key statistics for November 2023

Exports (EUR 5.0 billion):
  • They increased compared to previous November less than imports, namely by 4.8%.
  • The value was lower in trade with EU Member States (by 9.0%). In trade with EU non-member countries, it was higher by almost a quarter (24.8%) due to high value of operations involving processing. To EU non-member countries, without mentioned operations, it amounted to EUR 850.5 million and was lower by 8.8%.
Imports (EUR 5.3 billion):
  • At the annual level they increased more than exports, namely by 8.8%.
  • The value of imports from EU non-member countries increased by 41.4%, yet without operations involving processing it decreased by 16.5% and amounted to EUR 771.8 million.
  • The value of imports from EU Member States decreased by 10.2%.

November was the second month in 2023 when both exports and imports surpassed EUR 5 billion after March, when both values were even higher than in November. The value of exports was the highest in March and the value of imports in September.

The export-import ratio was 95.8%. Slovenia generated a deficit of EUR 0.2 billion in external trade in goods.

Trade with EU non-member countries represented almost a half of external trade in goods

In November, 48.8% of the value of exports was exported to EU non-member countries and 47.9% of imports imported from there. An important share (over a half) of trade with this group of countries were operations involving processing, the value of which for exports was the highest and for imports third highest in 2023.

The most important trade partner among EU non-member countries for exports was Switzerland (66.4% of exports to this group of countries), followed by Serbia (4.4%), the Russian Federation (4.1%), Bosnia and Herzegovina (3.7%) and the United States of America (3.0%). Slovenia also imported the most from Switzerland (46.9% of imports from this group of countries), followed by China (18.5%), India (12.0%), Türkiye (3.5%) and Saudi Arabia (2.8%).

In the first eleven months of 2023, exports amounted to EUR 50.9 billion and imports to EUR 53.0 billion. Exports went up by 4.8% compared to the same period a year before and imports by 1.8%. The export-import ratio was 96.2%.
