More net electricity was generated than last March
Compared to the same month last year, electricity production in March 2024 increased, energy supply was also higher.
Total net electricity generation and export higher, import lower than a year ago
In March 2024, total net electricity generation was 1,374 GWh. Compared to February, it increased by 7%, and compared to March 2023 it went up by 17%. At the annual level, generation in hydro power plants was higher by 44% and in thermal power plants by 7%, whilst in the nuclear power plant it remained the same.
In line with the higher production in thermal power plants, fuel consumption also increased. Total fuel consumption was 2% higher than a year ago.
748 GWh of electricity was imported and 983 GWh was exported. Compared to the same month last year, import decreased by 17% and export increased by 12%.
More electricity consumed in business entities than in the previous month
In March, households consumed 293 GWh and business entities 602 GWh of electricity. With 313 GWh consumed, manufacturing dominated. Compared to the previous month, electricity consumption in households went down by 1% and in business entities up by 3%.
Energy supply up at the monthly and annual level
Compared to February, the supply of energy commodities in general went up with the exception of supplies of Lignite and Brown Coal (down by 11%), Heating and Other Gasoil (down by 7%) and Natural Gas (down by 2%). It increased by 107% with Other Petroleum Products, 39% with Motor Gasoline, 31% with Hard Coal, 16% with LPG, 14% with Coke Oven Coke, 5% with Kerosene Jet Fuel and 5% with Transport Diesel Oil.
Compared to March 2023, the supply of energy commodities increased by 42% with Hard Coal, 21% with Other Petroleum Products, 9% with Lignite and Brown Coal, 7% with Natural Gas and 2% with Kerosene Jet Fuel.
