Good start of the high season – in July 2017 almost 1.9 million tourist overnight stays
In July 2017, 13% more tourist overnight stays were recorded in tourist accommodations than in July 2016. Foreign tourists generated 19% more arrivals and 17% more overnight stays and domestic tourist 8% more arrivals and 6% more overnight stays.
Almost 1.9 million tourist overnight stays
In July 2017, almost 680,000 tourist arrivals and almost 1.9 million overnight stays were registered in tourist accommodations, which was 16% more tourist arrivals and 13% more overnight stays than in July 2016. The number of foreign tourist arrivals increased by 19% and the number of their overnight stays by 17%. The number of domestic tourist arrivals increased by 8% and the number of their overnight stays by 6%.
German tourists generated the most overnight stays of all foreign tourists overnight stays
Most overnight stays in July 2017 were generated by tourists from Germany (almost 155,000 or 11%), followed by tourists from the Netherlands (almost 129,000 or 10%), Belgium, Italy and Austria (7% each) and the Czech Republic (6%).
Tourists from all key markets increased the number of their overnight stays compared to July 2016. In more detail the number of tourist overnight stays increased for tourists from the Netherlands (39%), followed by German tourists (34%), tourists from Belgium (31%), the Czech Republic (30%), Austria (6%), and Italy (3%).
A quarter of all overnight stays in camping sites
In July 2017, almost 849,000 or 45% of all tourist overnight stays were recorded in hotels, 25% in camping sites, 8% in private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings, 5% in apartment settlements, and 3% in company vacation facilities and vacation facilities for youth. In hotels permanent bedplaces were on average occupied 73% and hotel rooms 72% (net occupancy).
Compared to July 2016, the number of tourist overnight stays increased in all types of tourist accommodations: in private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings and camping sites by 24% each, in company vacation facilities and vacation facilities for youth by 10% and in hotels and apartment settlements by 7% each.
In July 2017 1 million overnight stays in mountain and seaside resorts
In July 2017, the highest number of tourist overnight stays (33% or more than 609,000) in Slovenia were recorded in mountain resorts, followed by seaside resorts (24%), health (spa) resorts (21%) and municipality Ljubljana (11%).
Compared to July 2016, in July 2017 more overnight stays were generated in all types of municipalities: in mountain resorts by 21%, in municipality Ljubljana by 11%, in seaside resorts by 8% and in health (spa) resorts by 7%.
Most tourist overnight stays in July 2017 were recorded in municipality Piran (15% or almost 274,000), followed by municipalities Ljubljana, Bled, Bohinj, Brežice, Kranjska gora, Bovec and Izola.
Up to July almost 6.7 million overnight stays
In the first seven months of 2017, 15% more tourist arrivals and 13% more overnight stays were recorded in tourist accommodations than in the same period of the previous year. Foreign tourist generated more than 4.4 million overnight stays and domestic tourists 2.3 million, the sum of which is almost 6.7 million total tourist overnight stays.
Domestic tourists generated 7% more arrivals (more than 761,000) and foreign tourists 19% more arrivals (almost 1.9 million).
