The number of private trips in Slovenia up
Slovenian residents aged 15 or more made 1.8 million tourist trips in the last quarter of 2024, 1.6 million of them private. More private trips in Slovenia were made than in the same period of 2023.
Almost two thirds of residents did not travel privately
In October, November or December 2024, 683,000 or 38% of Slovenian residents aged 15 or more went on at least one tourist trip (private and/or business), which is 2 percentage points more than in the last quarter of 2023. Most were private trips, with 645,000 (36%) residents travelling this way.
The largest number of residents of Slovenia aged 15 or more who did not go on a private trip (30%) stated household finance as the main reason, 22% did not travel due to lack of free time, 19% stayed home for medical reasons and 15% did not feel the need to travel.

In Slovenia the majority of expenses for activities, services and purchases, abroad for transport
In the observed quarter, domestic tourists went on about 1.6 million private trips. Compared to the same period last year, the number of private trips in Slovenia went up 11% and of private trips abroad down by 1%.
A little more than half of private trips were made abroad. Among these, the largest share to Croatia (33%), followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina (18%), Italy (10%), and Austria (10%).
In total, domestic tourists generated around 5 million overnight stays on private trips and on average stayed 3 nights, with trips abroad being longer than those in Slovenia. On average, they generated four overnight stays abroad and two in Slovenia. As regards their expenditure, they spent on average EUR 107 per day. Daily expenses in Slovenia amounted to about EUR 89 (mostly for various activities, services and purchases) and those abroad to about EUR 115 (mostly for transport).

Expenses on business trips about a fifth higher
In the observed period, 150,000 (8%) Slovenian residents made at least one business trip. About 182,000 business trips were made, 57% of them abroad. Residents who attended business trips allocated the majority of their expenses for accommodation. They spent about EUR 217 per day, 22% more than in the last quarter of 2023.
46% of residents on a same-day visit in Slovenia
In the observed period, 46% of domestic tourists made at least one same-day visit (private and/or business) in Slovenia. Slovenian residents generated around 3.1 million same-day visits. On average, they spent EUR 72 per person, mostly for food and drink in cafes and restaurants.
