In the first quarter of 2019 natural increase negative (–1,451), net migration positive (4,844).
Fewer live births and more deaths
In the first quarter of 2019, 4,517 live births and 5,968 deaths were recorded in Slovenia. Compared to the first quarter of 2018, the number of live births was 186 lower, and the number of deaths was 220 higher. In a year the value of natural decrease changed from –2.1 per 1,000 population to –2.8 per 1,000 population.
Fewer marriages and fewer divorces than in the same quarter of the previous year
In the first quarter of 2019, 697 couples were married and 587 couples were divorced. Compared to the first quarter of 2018, the number of marriages went down by 61 and the number of divorces went down by 3.
Decrease in internal migration
In the first quarter of 2019, 21.121 people migrated internally, which is 23% less than in the same period of 2018.
Net migration of Slovenian citizens negative for the thirty-second consecutive quarter
Compared to the same period of 2018, the number of immigrants to Slovenia increased by 47% to 7,943 in the first quarter of 2019. The number of emigrants decreased by 22% to 3,099. The number of emigrated citizens of Slovenia (1,502) was higher than the number of emigrated foreigners (1,597).
Positive net migration was recorded for foreign nationals (5,273 persons), while 429 Slovene citizens more emigrated from Slovenia than immigrated to it.
