Forestry on Agricultural Holdings, Slovenia, 2020

Half of the felled wood on agricultural holdings in 2020 was intended for domestic consumption
 
In 2020, about 1.2 million cubic meters of roundwood were harvested on 33,000 agricultural holdings in Slovenia (an average 37 cubic meters per agricultural holding). The amount of felling was about 32% lower than in 2016. Of these, 55% was non-coniferous wood and 45% was coniferous wood. About half of the wood felled was intended for domestic consumption.
According to the structure of felled wood by categories, most was wood fuel (about 50%), followed by sawlogs and veneer logs (almost 34%). The share of pulpwood was around 7% and of other industrial roundwood about 9%.

Most of the forestry work was done by the owners

Most of the forestry work on agricultural holdings was done by the owners themselves with their family members (93% of all hours worked were their own work). Hired work was about 5% of the hours worked and about 2% of the hours worked was neighbourhood assistance (assistance from neighbours, relatives, friends). Thus, the structure of hours worked is similar to the previous survey in 2016. 

In 2020, an agricultural holding used on average 2.1 chainsaws

In 2020, agricultural holdings used in forestry about 69,000 chainsaws (an average of 2.1 chainsaws per holding). About 43,000 tractors were used to harvest wood (adapted agricultural tractors or specialized forestry tractors). They also used about 28,000 splitting machines for bulk wood (horizontal, vertical, drill) and about 2,300 wood chippers (tractor driven).
