Energy, August 2024
In August 2024, less net electricity was generated than in August 2023
Compared to the same month last year, both electricity production and energy supply decreased in August.
Total net electricity generation lower, import and export higher than a year ago
In August 2024, total net electricity generation was 1,264 GWh. Compared to July, it decreased by 11%, and compared to August 2023 it decreased by 12%. Compared to the same month last year, generation in hydro power plants was lower by 44%, in thermal power plants by 2% and in the nuclear power plant by 1% lower. On the other hand, in solar and wind power plants it increased by 110%.
In line with the lowered production in thermal power plants, fuel consumption also decreased. Total fuel consumption was 15% lower than a year ago.
972 GWh of electricity was imported and 1,189 GWh was exported. Compared to the same month last year, import increased by 103% and export increased by 21%.
Electricity consumption in business entities lower than in the previous month, in households higher
In August, households consumed 237 GWh and business entities 582 GWh of electricity. With 276 GWh consumed, manufacturing dominated. Compared to the previous month, electricity consumption in households went up by 2%, while in business entities it went down by 7%.
Energy supply down at the monthly and annual level
Compared to July, the supply of energy commodities in general went down: of hard coal by 45%, of kerosene jet fuel by 31%, of coke oven coke by 16%, of other petroleum products by 13%, of transport diesel oil by 10%, of Heating and Other Gasoil by 6% and of LPG also by 6%. On the other hand, the supply of motor gasoline went up by 30%, and of lignite and brown coal by 10%.
Compared to last August, the supply of energy commodities decreased: of Heating and Other Gasoil by 33%, of kerosene jet fuel by 19%, of LPG by 12%, of lignite and brown coal by 8%, and of transport diesel oil by 5%.
