Slightly fewer births and deaths in the first month of this year

Compared to the same month of 2024, the number of live births and deaths went down by 1.5%. A natural decrease was recorded: according to provisional data, 669 more people died than were born. On average 45 children were born per day and 67 people died.

The number of live births down

In the first month of this year, 1,397 children were born in Slovenia, which was 21 or 1.5% fewer than in January 2024. On average 45 children were born per day (compared to 46 in the same month of 2024).

Fewer number of deaths

In the observed month, 2,066 residents of Slovenia died. This was 31 (1.5%) fewer than in January last year. On average 67 people died each day (one less than in January 2024).

What do data for February 2025 indicate?

According to the first estimate, 982 residents of Slovenia died between 1 and 16 February 2025. In the same period of last year, the number was higher (1.204 residents).
