Daily passenger mobility, Slovenia, 2017
New in the SI-STAT Database: Daily passenger mobility, 2017 – final, detailed data
In 2017, a resident of Slovenia (15–84 years) performed on average 2.7 trips per day. The total distance of those trips was 34.5 km, and 62 minutes of travel time was needed to cover the distance.
Following the First Release published on 10 September 2018, we are now publishing in the SI-STAT Database the final data on daily mobility of the residents of Slovenia (15–84 years) for 2017. The five data sets present the data on trips, distances and travel time spent on trips, car occupancy, and participation in daily mobility. At the end of each data set those data are added which we sent to Eurostat in the framework of the joint project on the development of the methodology of surveying the daily mobility.
84% of residents were mobile
The results of the survey on daily mobility of the residents of Slovenia show that on average 84% of residents (15–84 years) were daily mobile; on an average day they went on a trip in the distance from 100 m to 300 km. 87% of the residents were mobile on a workday and 77% on a non-working day. 85% of men and 83% of women were mobile.
Why 16% of residents (15–84 years) didn’t go on any trip? A quarter of answers (28%) was “there was no real reason to go anywhere”. The second most frequent answer (23%) was “illness”, i.e. either the respondent or any other family member was ill.
On average 2.7 trips per day at a distance of 34.5 km in 62 minutes
The residents of Slovenia (15–84 years) daily performed on average 2.7 trips at a total distance of 34.5 km in 62 minutes of travel time.
16% of the residents didn’t participate in daily mobility; if we consider in the calculations only the mobile residents, i.e. those who performed at least one trip, the results would illustrate that mobile residents performed 3.2 trips per day at a total distance of 41 km and spent on average 74 minutes of travel time.
In 2017, the residents of Slovenia (15–84 years) performed about 4.5 million trips per day, the distance of which was about 58 million km, which means that the average distance of one trip was 13 km.
In one day, on average in total 1.7 million hours (or more than 72,000 days or more than 190 years) were spent on daily trips.
Trips to work…
Almost one in four trips of residents of Slovenia was a trip to work or back. On 8 of 10 trips a car was used as the main mode of transport. The average distance per resident who went on a trip with work as the purpose was 32 km; on average 44 minutes were used on that distance. In the morning, 15% of trips started between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m., and 13% between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. The main share of trips (22%) was in the group of trip distances from 10 to 20 km. 63% of trips to work or back lasted from 1 to 20 minutes.
… trips to school ...
Education was the reason for only 3% of trips. Public means of transport (buses or trains) were used on 55% of those trips as the main mode of transport. The average distance per person on these trips was 35 km (3 km more than at trips to work), but the residents used for them daily 67 minutes (23 minutes more than at trips to work). 19% of trips because of education began between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. The highest share of trips (27%) was in the the group of trip distances from 20 to 50 km. 41% of trips with education as the purpose lasted from 1 to 20 minutes.
… and trips for shopping
Residents of Slovenia performed 15% of daily trips due to shopping. A car was used on 67% of those trips as the main mode of transport.
The average distance per person on these trips was 12 km; however, the residents needed for them on average 24 minutes, because they walked on a quarter of trips.
Most trips (16%) began between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., and 41% of trips were performed between 9 a.m. and 12 a.m.
Trips with shopping as the purpose were short and they didn’t take a long time: 25% of trips were in the group of trip distances from 1 to 2.5 km, and 22% of trips were shorter than 1 km. 34% of trips lasted less than 5 minutes, and 28% of trips lasted between 5 and 10 minutes.
