Aquaculture, freetime and sport fishing, 2022
The highest average purchase prices in aquaculture in the last ten years
In 2022 1,600 tonnes of aquatic organisms were bred, which is comparable to the previous year. The purchase value of farmed aquatic organisms (EUR 6.8 million) hit the record, mostly due to higher average purchase prices. More fish were caught in freshwater sport catch than the ten-year average.
In Slovenian fish farms most Rainbow trout were bred
Aquatic farming in inland waters accounted for more than 60% of total production, but less than in the previous year. The share of marine fish and molluscs increased by 8 p.p. compared to the previous year. 520 tonnes of Mediterranean Mussels were bred, which is by a quarter more than the year before.
Among aquatic farming in inland waters, the share of coldwater fish was almost 80% of total production. Among them was around 730 tonnes of Rainbow trout, which is by 15% less than in the previous year. Among warmwater fish, Carp prevailed – the production amounted to 123 tonnes and was comparable to the previous year.

In recreational sea fishing the fewest fish caught since 2015
In recreational sea fishing around 9.8 tonnes of fish and other marine organisms were caught. This is the lowest catch after 2015 and by 15% lower compared to the previous year. In sport fishing activities in inland waters, about 160 tonnes of freshwater fish were caught, which is comparable to the previous year and by 6% more than the ten-year average. Coldwater fish represented 17% of total catch – almost 27 tonnes. Sports fishermen caught around 23 tonnes of Rainbow trout, which is by 11% more than the ten-year average. Warmwater fish represented 83% of total sport fishing catch. 130 tonnes of fish were caught, the most Carp – almost 70 tonnes.
