Average monthly earnings for January 2017 lower than earnings for December 2016
Average monthly gross earnings for January 2017 amounted to EUR 1,592.15; compared to earnings for the previous month they were lower in nominal terms by 3.7% and in real terms by 3.1%. Average monthly net earnings for January 2017 amounted to EUR 1,039.12; compared to earnings for the previous month they were lower by 3.3% in nominal terms and by 2.7% in real terms.

Earnings for January 2017 were lower than earnings for December 2016 mostly due to significantly higher extra payments (13^th month payments and Christmas bonuses) paid with earnings for December 2016 than with earnings for January 2017.

Compared to earnings for January 2016, average monthly earnings for January 2017 were higher (gross by 2.1% and net by 2.3%).

Compared to December 2016, average monthly earnings for January 2017 decreased less in the public sector than in the private sector
Compared to December 2016, average monthly net earnings for January 2017 were lower in both sectors, in the private sector by 3.7% and in the public sector by 2.7%.

On average the highest monthly net earnings for January 2017 were paid in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (EUR 1,451.88) and in financial and insurance activities (EUR 1,449.68) and the lowest in administrative and support service activities (EUR 727.77).

Compared to earnings for the previous month, average monthly net earnings for January 2017 decreased in most activities; the most, by 10.3%, in transportation and storage.
