Average gross earnings for January 2019 3.0% lower than earnings for December 2018

Average gross earnings for January 2019 amounted to EUR 1,729.15 and were lower than earnings for December 2018; in nominal terms by 3.0% and in real terms by 1.9%. The decrease in average earnings was mostly due to lower extra payments (13th month payments and Christmas bonuses).

Average earnings for January 2019 lower than earnings for December 2018 but higher than earnings for January 2018
Average gross earnings for January 2019 amounted to EUR 1,729.15. Compared to gross earnings for December 2018 they were lower in nominal terms by 3.0% and in real terms by 1.9%. Average net earnings for January 2019 (they amounted to EUR 1,115.98) were also lower than net earnings for December 2018, in nominal terms by 4.0% and in real terms by 2.9%. The decrease in average earnings was mostly due to lower extra payments (13th month payments and Christmas bonuses).

Compared to earnings for January 2018, average earnings for January 2019 increased in nominal and in real terms; gross earnings in nominal terms by 4.2% and in real terms by 3.1%, and net earnings in nominal terms by 3.5% and in real terms by 2.4%.

Compared to earnings for December 2018, average earnings for January 2019 decreased more in the private sector
Compared to earnings for December 2018, average net earnings for January 2019 decreased: in the private sector by 4.7% and in the public sector by 2.9% (in the institutional sector general government they were higher by 2.1%).

Average earnings for January 2019 the highest in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply
Compared to earnings for December 2018, average net earnings for January 2019 decreased in most activities (mostly due to lower extra payments); they were higher only in public administration and defence, compulsory social security (by 6.0%), education (by 3.3%), mining and quarrying (by 2.1%) and human health and social work activities (by 0.3%).

The highest average net earnings for January 2019 were paid in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (they amounted to EUR 1,566.98).
