More than 4.5 million private trips made in 2018

In 2018, Slovenian residents went on more than 4.5 million private trips all together, which is 7% more than in 2017. More than half of all private trips were made abroad. The most visited foreign destination was Croatia.

Seven out of ten Slovenian residents went on private trips
In 2018, around 1,222,000 persons or 69% of the total resident population aged 15 years or more went on at least one private trip, which is 3 percentage points more than in 2017. They went on around 4,575,000 private trips all together, which is 7% more than in 2017.

Croatia – main destination for six out of ten private trips abroad
41% of all private trips were made in Slovenia and 59% were made abroad. The most visited foreign destination was Croatia (61% of all private trips made abroad), followed by Italy (7%), Austria (6%) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (5%).

Average daily expenditure on private trips amounted to EUR 50
Private trips involved on average 4.5 overnight stays (2.7 overnight stays in Slovenia, 5.8 overnight stays abroad), while average daily expenditure on these trips amounted to around EUR 50 per person (EUR 40 in Slovenia, EUR 53 abroad). Tourists staying in hotels and similar accommodation establishments spent daily on average the most (EUR 90; EUR 67 in Slovenia, EUR 100 abroad) and tourists staying in their own secondary homes the least (EUR 18; EUR 18 in Slovenia, EUR 19 abroad).

Four out of five business trips were made abroad
Slovenian residents aged 15 or more also went on around 616,000 business (or study) trips last year. 20% of these trips were made in Slovenia, 80% abroad. Business trips involved on average 3.3 overnight stays (2.2 overnight stays in Slovenia, 3.6 overnight stays abroad), while average daily expenditure on these trips amounted to around EUR 181 per person (EUR 129 in Slovenia, EUR 189 abroad).
