Gorenjska regija

Ta statistična regija je skoraj v celoti alpska in deloma zaščitena kot narodni park. Njena značilnost so visoke gore, med katerimi je najvišja Triglav, simbol slovenstva. Razgiban relief in podnebje sta dobra osnova za turistično dejavnost.

The Gorenjska statistical region had 10% of Slovenia’s population in 2023. The population density of 98 inhabitants per square kilometre was below the national average.

The mean age of Gorenjska’s population was 43.7 years, the third lowest among regions and below the national average of 44.1 years. Together with the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region, this region stood out with the second highest share of people aged 0–14. In both, the share of people in this age group was 15.6%. This region recorded a natural decrease of –1.1 per 1,000 population. Only in this region was total net migration per 1,000 population negative at –2.5. Births outside marriage accounted for half of all births in the region, which is the second lowest share among the regions. Life expectancy at birth for girls born in this region in 2023 was the highest among all regions at 85.1 years, while for boys it was the third highest at 79.5 years. The educational structure of the population was better than in most regions. Among residents aged 25–64, 34.3% had tertiary education, the second highest share among regions, following Osrednjeslovenska. Additionally, the share of those with only basic education or less was 12.0%, equal to the national average.

The employment rate was 71.7%, the third highest among regions, exceeding the national average by 2.4 percentage points. The LFS unemployment rate was 3.2%, the fourth lowest regionally. Of the employed persons resident in the region, 29% went to work in other regions, most of them (88%) in Osrednjeslovenska. Average monthly net earnings in this region amounted to EUR 1,420, which was 1.8% less than the national average.

GDP per capita in this region in 2023 amounted to EUR 26,247, which was 13% less than the average for Slovenia. Around 23,200 enterprises operated in this region, employing nearly 84,100 people.

People living in Gorenjska assessed general satisfaction with their life with the highest average score, i.e. 8.0 out of 10. The severe material deprivation rate (0.5%) and the risk of social exclusion (10.5%) were the lowest. In this region, 99% of households could afford a meat or equivalent vegetarian meal every second day, representing the largest share among all regions. There were 570 cars per 1,000 population in the region, with only the Osrednjeslovenska and Zasavska regions having fewer. The average car age was 10.9 years, lower than the national average of 11.1 years.

In 2023, the region recorded the highest number of tourist arrivals of all regions. A total of 1,502,306 arrivals, representing 24% of all in Slovenia, were recorded. This was mainly due to foreign tourists, who generated the highest number of arrivals (1,257,417 or 27%) and overnight stays (3,207,359 or 28%) in the country.
